Southern Fried Cinnamon Apples

Posted on December 5, 2025 by Admin

Here is a classic, simple recipe for Southern Fried Cinnamon Apples — tender, buttery, and perfect as a side dish or dessert.

Southern Fried Cinnamon Apples

Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or any firm variety)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Prepare the Apples

  • Peel (optional), core, and slice apples into even wedges.

2. Cook the Apples

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add apples, stirring to coat them in the butter.
  3. Cook for 5–7 minutes until they begin to soften.

3. Add Sugar and Spices

  1. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt.
  2. Stir well and continue cooking 5–10 minutes, until apples are tender and coated in a thick, syrupy sauce.

4. Finish

  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Serve

  • Serve warm as a side with pork chops, over pancakes, waffles, French toast, or as a dessert with vanilla ice cream.

Tips

  • Use firm apples so they hold their shape while cooking.
  • Add a tablespoon of water if the pan becomes too dry.
  • Double the sauce ingredients if you prefer extra syrup.
