Posted on December 4, 2025 by Admin

Here is a simple, hearty recipe for Ground Beef and Chopped Cabbage — a one-pan meal that’s budget-friendly, filling, and delicious.

Ground Beef and Chopped Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil (if needed)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (optional for flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Brown the ground beef

  1. In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat.
  2. Break it apart and cook until browned.
  3. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 2: Add onion and garlic

  1. Add the diced onion to the skillet.
  2. Cook 3–5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.

Step 3: Add chopped cabbage

  1. Add the chopped cabbage on top of the beef mixture.
  2. Cover the skillet and let the cabbage wilt for 5–7 minutes.
  3. Stir to combine.

Step 4: Season

  1. Add salt, pepper, paprika, and optional soy sauce/Worcestershire sauce.
  2. If using diced tomatoes, add them now and stir.

Step 5: Cook until tender

  • Continue cooking uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and flavors blend.

Serve

  • Serve as a one-bowl meal, over rice, or with crusty bread.
  • It’s excellent with a dollop of sour cream on top.

Variations

  • Add potatoes: small diced potatoes added with cabbage.
  • Low-carb: leave out tomatoes and use extra seasoning.
  • Spicy: add more red pepper flakes or a spoonful of chili paste.
  • Asian-style: add 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon ginger, and a drizzle of sesame oil.
