Posted on November 30, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a comforting, rich, and ultra-creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole that has all the classic flavors—tender chicken, smoky ham, melty Swiss, and a buttery crumb topping—without all the work of rolling and frying!

🥘 Creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole

⭐ Ingredients (serves 6)

For the Casserole

  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or cubed
  • 1½–2 cups diced ham
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (or Gruyère)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella (optional for extra gooeyness)

Creamy Sauce

  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan (optional but delicious)

Topping

  • 1½ cups crushed Ritz crackers or seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)

🔧 Instructions

1. Preheat & Prep

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13 baking dish.

2. Layer the base

Spread the cooked chicken evenly in the bottom of the dish.
Add the diced ham on top.
Sprinkle Swiss cheese (and mozzarella, if using) evenly over the meat.

3. Make the creamy sauce

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute to form a roux.
  3. Slowly add milk and cream, whisking until smooth.
  4. Stir in Dijon, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).
  6. Add Parmesan and stir until melted and creamy.

Pour the hot sauce evenly over the casserole layers.

4. Add the topping

Mix crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter and parsley.
Sprinkle evenly over the casserole.

5. Bake

Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until the top is golden and the casserole is bubbling around the edges.

6. Serve

Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Great with:

  • Steamed broccoli
  • Green beans
  • A crisp tossed salad
  • Buttered noodles

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Use rotisserie chicken for a fast weeknight option.
  • Add cooked pasta to make it a full one-pan meal.
  • Swap Swiss for provolone or Monterey Jack for a milder version.
  • Add a splash of white wine to the sauce for extra depth.
