Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or anytime you need a stunning dessert with minimal fuss.

🍏 Apple Slab Pie (Easy & Feeds a Crowd!)

⭐ Why You’ll Love It

✔ Uses a sheet pan (no fancy pie dish)
✔ Easy crust options — homemade or store-bought
✔ Tons of apples, cinnamon, buttery goodness
✔ Slices neatly into squares

🥧 Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 2 boxes refrigerated pie crusts (4 crusts total)
OR homemade double crust dough (enough for a 10×15-inch sheet pan)

For the Filling

  • 8–10 cups apples (about 8–10 medium apples), peeled & sliced
Best apples: Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Pink Lady
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch (or ⅓ cup flour)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into pieces

For the Finish

  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)
  • Powdered sugar glaze (optional)

🍏 Instructions

1. Prep the Pan

Grease a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet (jelly roll pan).
Line with parchment for easy slicing.

2. Make the Filling

In a large bowl, mix:

  • apples
  • sugars
  • cornstarch
  • lemon juice
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • salt
  • vanilla

Toss until apples are coated and glossy.

3. Assemble the Bottom Crust

  • Roll out 2 pie crusts so they overlap slightly.
  • Press into the sheet pan, going up the sides.
  • Trim excess.

4. Add the Filling

Spread apple mixture evenly.
Dot with the butter pieces.

5. Add the Top Crust

  • Roll out the remaining 2 crusts and lay over the apples.
  • Seal edges and trim.
  • Cut a few slits for steam.
  • Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.

6. Bake

Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 35–45 minutes,
until golden and bubbling.

If the edges brown too fast, cover them with foil.

7. Cool & Serve

Let cool at least 30 minutes so it sets and slices cleanly.
Serve plain, with ice cream, or with a drizzle of glaze.

🍎 Optional Glaze

Mix:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla

Drizzle over cooled pie.

⭐ Tips for Best Results

  • Use at least two apple varieties for depth of flavor.
  • Let apples sit 10 minutes after mixing—this draws out juices for a better filling.
  • For extra flavor, add:
    💛 ¼ tsp cardamom
    🍯 2 tbsp maple syrup
🥃 1 tbsp bourbon or apple cider
