Here’s a delicious, takeout-style Beef Lo Mein you can make at home—savory noodles, tender beef, and plenty of veggies. It’s fast, flavorful, and ready in under 30 minutes.

🥡 Beef Lo Mein Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

For the noodles:

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti/ramen noodles)

For the beef:

  • 8 oz flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

For the stir-fry:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 3–4 green onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced (optional)

Lo Mein Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional for color)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1–2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water or broth

🔪 Instructions

1. Marinate the Beef

In a bowl, toss beef with:

  • Soy sauce
  • Cornstarch
  • Sesame oil
  • Garlic powder

Let sit for 10 minutes.

2. Cook the Noodles

  • Boil noodles according to package directions.
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Toss lightly with oil so they don’t stick.

3. Make the Sauce

In a bowl, whisk together:

  • Soy sauce
  • Oyster sauce
  • Hoisin
  • Dark soy (optional)
  • Sugar
  • Sesame oil
  • Water/broth

Set aside.

4. Stir-Fry the Beef

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok or large pan over high heat.
  • Add beef and sear until browned (2–3 minutes).
  • Remove and set aside.

5. Cook the Veggies

  • Add another 1 tbsp oil.
  • Stir-fry cabbage, carrot, bell pepper, garlic, and ginger for 2–3 minutes.
  • Add green onions last.

6. Combine Everything

  • Return beef to the pan.
  • Add cooked noodles.
  • Pour sauce over the top.
  • Toss and fry for 1–2 minutes until everything is coated and glossy.

⭐ Tips for Perfect Lo Mein

  • Slice beef thinly—freezing for 15 minutes helps.
  • Use high heat so veggies stay crisp, not soggy.
  • Add mushrooms, snap peas, broccoli or any veggies you like.
  • Dark soy sauce adds great color but is optional.
