Crockpot Barbecue Ribs

Posted on November 29, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a simple and flavorful Crockpot Barbecue Ribs recipe—fall-off-the-bone tender and smothered in BBQ sauce.

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 2–3 lbs (900 g–1.4 kg) pork baby back ribs or spare ribs
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2–2 cups barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

1. Prepare the ribs:

  • Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs (optional but helps tenderness).
  • Season ribs with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.

2. Cut ribs to fit crockpot:

  • Slice the rack into 2–3 sections so they fit comfortably in your slow cooker.

3. Place ribs in crockpot:

  • Stand ribs on their side or lay flat in the crockpot.

4. Add barbecue sauce:

  • Pour about 1 cup of BBQ sauce over the ribs, coating evenly.
  • Reserve a bit of sauce for finishing.

5. Cook:

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until the ribs are tender.

6. Optional broil for caramelized finish:

  • Preheat oven broiler.
  • Place ribs on a baking sheet lined with foil.
  • Brush with remaining BBQ sauce and broil 3–5 minutes until sauce is caramelized and slightly charred.

7. Serve:

  • Serve ribs hot with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
  • Pair with coleslaw, cornbread, or baked beans for a complete meal.

Tips for Perfect Crockpot Ribs

  • Membrane removal: Makes ribs more tender and easier to eat.
  • Sauce: Use your favorite BBQ sauce—sweet, smoky, or spicy.
  • Thickness: Spare ribs are meatier and slightly longer cooking time; baby back ribs cook faster.
  • Broiling step: Optional, but gives the sticky, caramelized finish similar to grilling.

I can also provide a dump-and-go version where you layer ribs and sauce in the crockpot without any prep for an ultra-easy, hands-off method.

Do you want me to share that version?
