Baked Apple Fritters

Posted on December 4, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a classic Baked Apple Fritters recipe — soft, slightly sweet, and lightly spiced, without the need for deep-frying:

Baked Apple Fritters

Ingredients

For the fritters:

  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 1 ½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup (65 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the batter

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in chopped apples.

Step 2: Shape and bake fritters

  1. Drop spoonfuls of batter (about 2–3 tablespoons each) onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 3: Prepare the glaze

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust consistency by adding more milk if needed.

Step 4: Glaze the fritters

  1. Allow fritters to cool slightly on a wire rack.
  2. Drizzle glaze over the warm fritters and let it set for a few minutes before serving.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use tart apples for a nice balance with the sweet glaze.
  • Don’t overmix the batter; a few lumps are fine to keep fritters tender.
  • Optional: add a pinch of ground cloves or allspice to the batter for extra warmth.

These baked apple fritters are lighter than fried versions, but still soft, sweet, and packed with apple flavor — perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a snack.

I can also provide a mini muffin-style version that’s bite-sized and easier to serve if you want.
