hard-boiled eggs

Posted on December 4, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a clear and reliable guide to making perfect hard-boiled eggs:

Ingredients:

  • Eggs (as many as you like)
  • Water
  • Ice (for ice bath)

Step 1: Place Eggs in a Pot

  • Arrange eggs in a single layer in a saucepan.
  • Add enough cold water to cover eggs by about 1 inch.

Step 2: Boil the Eggs

  • Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring water to a rolling boil.

Step 3: Turn Off Heat and Cover

  • Once boiling, remove the pot from heat and cover with a lid.
  • Let the eggs sit in the hot water:
    • Soft-boiled: 6–7 minutes
    • Medium: 9–10 minutes
    • Hard-boiled: 11–12 minutes

Step 4: Ice Bath

  • Immediately transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water or run under cold water for several minutes.
  • This stops cooking and makes peeling easier.

Step 5: Peel or Store

  • Gently tap eggs on a hard surface, roll to crack the shell, and peel.
  • Store unpeeled eggs in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Tips for Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs:

  1. Older eggs peel easier than very fresh eggs.
  2. Adding a teaspoon of baking soda to the water can help make peeling smoother.
  3. Avoid overcooking; it can cause a greenish ring around the yolk.

I can also give a foolproof method to get creamy yolks every time if you want them perfect for salads or deviled eggs. Do you want me to include that?
