Here’s a classic, versatile recipe for a Burrito—easy to make at home with customizable fillings.

🌯 Classic Burrito

Ingredients (makes 4 burritos)

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, chicken, or beans (or a combination)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 cup cooked beans (black beans or pinto beans), optional
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • 1/2 cup salsa or diced tomatoes
  • Optional add-ins: corn, bell peppers, sautéed mushrooms, or avocado

For Assembly:

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, diced tomatoes, hot sauce

Instructions

1. Cook the Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté onion until softened, 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground meat or beans. Cook until meat is browned and cooked through (or beans are heated), about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add cooked rice, beans (if using), and salsa. Mix until well combined and heated through.

2. Assemble Burritos

  1. Warm tortillas slightly in a skillet or microwave for pliability.
  2. Place a portion of filling in the center of each tortilla.
  3. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and add any optional toppings.
  4. Fold sides over the filling, then roll tightly from bottom to top.

3. Optional: Crisp the Burritos

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and place burritos seam-side down for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

4. Serve

  • Cut in half and serve with additional salsa, sour cream, or guacamole on the side.

Tips & Variations

  • Vegetarian: Skip meat and use beans, lentils, or tofu.
  • Breakfast burrito: Fill with scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and cheese.
  • Freezer-friendly: Wrap individual burritos in foil and freeze; reheat in the oven or microwave.
  • Spicy twist: Add diced jalapeños, hot sauce, or chipotle peppers in adobo.

This Burrito is hearty, customizable, and easy to make, perfect for lunch, dinner, or even meal prep.

I can also provide a Tex-Mex style burrito with green chili and cheese that’s extra flavorful if you want.
