Here’s a comforting and flavorful recipe for a Bowl of Wonton Soup—filled with tender wontons, savory broth, and fresh greens.

🥣 Wonton Soup

Ingredients (serves 4)

For the Wontons:

  • 8–10 oz ground pork (or chicken/shrimp mix)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper (or black pepper)
  • 20–24 wonton wrappers

For the Broth:

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1-inch piece ginger, sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional Add-ins:

  • Baby bok choy, spinach, or napa cabbage
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Cooked noodles (egg noodles, rice noodles)
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

1. Make the Wontons

  1. In a bowl, combine ground meat, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Place 1 tsp of filling in the center of a wonton wrapper.
  3. Moisten edges with water, fold in half to form a triangle (or rectangle), and press edges to seal.
  4. Optional: bring corners together to form a traditional wonton shape.

2. Prepare the Broth

  1. In a large pot, combine chicken broth, water, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to simmer 10 minutes for flavor.
  3. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, and season with salt and pepper.

3. Cook the Wontons

  1. Gently drop wontons into simmering broth.
  2. Cook 4–5 minutes until they float to the surface and filling is cooked through.

4. Add Vegetables (Optional)

  • Add greens and mushrooms in the last 2–3 minutes of cooking until just tender.

5. Serve

  • Ladle wontons and broth into bowls.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions or a drizzle of sesame oil.
  • Serve hot as a starter or a main with steamed rice.

Tips & Variations

  • Make-ahead: Prepare wontons and freeze uncooked; cook directly from frozen in simmering broth.
  • Flavor boost: Add a dash of soy sauce, rice vinegar, or chili oil when serving.
  • Vegetarian version: Use finely chopped mushrooms, tofu, and vegetables instead of meat.
  • Noodle soup: Add cooked noodles to make it a hearty one-bowl meal.

This Wonton Soup is warm, comforting, and full of umami, perfect for a cozy lunch or dinner.

I can also give a quick 20-minute version that uses store-bought wontons and still tastes homemade if you want.
